Why The Familyhood Summit? and Why is May the 14th, 2022  (Virtually) the date?

Before I answer why the Familyhood Summit? You need to know what Familyhood is according to David Roach, Since, we have jumped on the scene with the concept, others are chipping away at what Familyhood means to them. Although, I believe the conversation is stimulating, not one thus far has mentioned The Familyhood vision and strategy not only have promoted, but continue to pursue.

Familyhood is a systemic approach of community development prioritizing the people that live in the community. Familyhood defines the schools, meaning their location, their resources and their inter-generational population, as the center of Familyhood’s development,

Familyhood is driven by two motto’s. 1) Every school shall have functioning Student Government Association, Parent Teacher Association and Alumni Association. 2) Every school shall have a garden, a farmers market and a grocery store. In short, along with community partners ( Familyhood calls “Friends  of school) the organizations of motto #1 in collaboration are the schools Familyhood. Together, they run their garden, farmers market and eventually their grocery store.

Why is Familyhood systemic ? Because Familyhood has a role for every generation with a vision that one day, every individual, or lets say, every child  every student, will one day become an Alumni.

Every student begins the Familyhood journey by joining their school’s Student Government Association with the hands-on role of planning/operating the garden, the farmers market and grocery store and continuing this journey by joining the school’s Alumni Association when they graduate.

The Alumni Association, according to Familyhood, mentor the Student Government Association. Which means the individual of a community, it’s children, enter “the pipeline of community governance by joining their Student Government Association to later graduate and to return as a mentor, representing the Alumni Association.

With the above understanding of what Familyhood is, let us talk about why The Familyhood Summit?
The main reason is to promote Familyhood, our two motto’s , as mentioned above.
Because, our vision is for schools around the world to be in contact with one another. What are the best practices of Student Government Association? What are the best practices of Parent Teacher Associations? What are the best practices of Alumni Associations? How do schools run their school garden? Their farmers market? Their grocery store?
Why May the 14th? Because its almost end of the school year.
We hope your school can report how your year was and future plans in 2022/2023.
