Richard Campbell GeoAg Biography

Born in Detroit, Michigan, RICHARD C. CAMPBELL has over 25-years’ experience as a management consultant for Fortune 500 companies and federal agencies including US Army, USAID, and Peace Corps as well as corporations like Allstate, Ford and Blue Cross Blue Shield.
Prior to his management consulting career, Campbell served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Mali, West Africa from 1994 to 1996 where he developed Peace Corps’ micro finance program which was replicated to all Peace Corps countries worldwide. Campbell earned his Bachelors of Administration degree from Morehouse College, where he majored in Business before working as an analyst at Bank of America in Nashville, TN. He earned his MBA from Howard University and was recruited by Price WaterhouseCoopers to work on reconciling USAID’s grant and loan portfolio in Washington, DC. Campbell is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity, lives in Ellicott City, Maryland and is married with two kids.
In 1994, Campbell’s uncle asked why they were witnessing a watermelon growing from rock, which led to the two looking closer at growing other plants in rocks. In 2009, with 15-years of watching a host of plants growing in rocks, Campbell sought the patents on what he was calling geological agriculture. Over the past decade Campbell has amassed several academic partners including Tennessee State University, Virginia Union University in Richmond, Coppin State University in Baltimore and Fort Valley State University in Georgia.
On October 1, 2015, Campbell was awarded 14-patents over the process of cultivating plants in rocks. He developed the company To Soil Less to share the benefits of growing plants in rocks and released the book River Stones Grow Plants in 2018 through Barnes & Noble and other places books are sold. This book is designed to teach consumers how to grow plants at home indoors or outdoors and represents his family’s 25-year experience with growing plants in rocks.
Campbell’s first major client for geological agriculture services came from Fulton County, GA in July 2018 where they retained his firm to help end the effect of food deserts. Campbell and his team teach GeoAg concepts to the public at libraries, senior centers and community centers to increase access to nutrition at home.
In August 2018, the US State Department invited Campbell’s firm to the Young African Leaders Initiative Washington Mandela Conference in Washington, DC where over 200 leaders from Africa met team GeoAg. Now, 16 countries in Africa, Caribbean and Asia have volunteer GeoAg presidents who have decided to represent GeoAg in their country already testing local rocks. This collection of countries has formed the GeoAg Global Alliance, who work together globally to bring GeoAg to the forefront.
