Since every school is different, #Familyhood will occur differently at every school.
For example, some schools may already have a functioning Student Government, while another school does not. Or another school may have a Parent Teacher Association functioning and other school does not. Theses differences could mean one school, the one with these organizations functioning, will have more capacity or more people to actually move things forward. While another school without these organizations may only have a few people pulling the grunt of the work.
However, a school may “implement” a 1stSaturdays volunteer / recruitment day with music, participation of a few athletes, celebrities and attract the capacity overnight to achieve the mission and goals even faster than the schools already organized, mentioned above.
To further elaborate, a school may possess one student who believes #Familyhood could empower their school and community and recruits other students, parents and alumni to plan their 1st Saturdays to advance towards #Familyhood and achieve #Familyhood results faster than all the above.
In theory, #Familyhood, once started, is always in constant motion at a school site in the pursuit of Familyhood. To illustrate, the school always recruiting new students to join the schools Student Government Association, more parents to join the schools Parent Teacher Association and more Alumni to join the schools Alumni Association. The school is also in constant motion of improving its school garden, its farmers market and its grocery store.
To illustrate this “constant motion” of recruiting while “implementing” actual 1stSaturdays volunteer days and the food related enterprises (garden,farmers market, grocery store), we define as the schools”Continued Education”.
Once schools join, we believe, they will have many of the same questions.
How can we get our Student Government Association going?
How can our garden be the best school garden?
One of our role as 1stSaturdays.com is to amplify these voices from around the world on their #Familyhood journey.

Join us March 2nd, at 8:00 – 11:00 a.m. for 1st Saturdays at McClymonds High School in West Oakland.
The garden at McClymonds is managed by Planting Justice. They have agreed to enable us to host 1stSaturdays events at the garden to promote increased participation from Students, Parents and Alumni at the school.
