Arvin Hariri, the past Governmental Affairs Policy Director for the California Association of Student Councils, worked closely with California Youth to create relevant and feasible proposals to both the state legislature and California Department of Education. After sharing these proposals with legislative offices and CDE staff, select proposals ended up picked up. Namely, CASC reached an agreement with the CDE to create a position for a student member on the Instructional Quality Commission, which revises and sets curriculum frameworks for students across the state. Additionally, CASC has championed AB 543, a bill that would require schools to put posters relating to sexual harassment policies in prominent locations across school sites. Arvin has played a pivotal role in and out of the legislature in ensuring that student ideas become a reality.
